ready for us to start

We all started together on First Time and while we headed for the summit, Sue went in search of a bandage for her injured thumb. 888-035-07.jpg (39245 bytes)

Chris suggested that we keep clear of the crowds on Pay Day. So we headed up Eagle and took a series of confidence boosting runs off the King Consolidated lift:
  • The first was a cruise down the silky smooth Sitka, with about 4 inches of powder on a freshly groomed base.
  • The next run was the ungroomed Courchevel, where the easy gradient and the soft snow meant we could actually ski close to the fall line through the bumps.
  • The next challenge was the soft powder in the gladed area between Temptation and Seldom Seen.
  • Three more ungroomed blues, with varying amounts of fresh powder followed.

It was now time to head back to the base to meet Sue for a coffee break. Rather than queue to get to the summit, we took Gotch Cut-off. We stopped at the top of Men's SL. "Looks difficult", said Chris. "Nonsense", replied dad and it was a delight. There was enough shape to the bumps to provide a skiable line and enough powder to give us the confidence to take the run fluently and confortably top to bottom.

Full of confidence, after coffee we headed for the summit and two runs down Blueslip Bowl. This was not too difficult, although the steepness meant that we were less fluent than earlier.

After the first run, Chris took a narrow path through trees. Dad followed and went both sides of a tree. It was an honourable draw, with neither suffering and damage.

Three runs of Bonanza brought us to lunchtime, but the run back to the bottom brought one more challenge with the soft powder on Silver Skis.

By the time, tiredness was setting in. We all took one run on First Time but the queue was so long that we were all rather cold. Sue called it a day, Chris and I took two more runs, off Pay Day. We finished up with the moguls of Widowmaker. We skied it comfortably enough, but tired legs meant we took longer traverses between turns.

Another good day, but Sue did not ski much.
